Sustainability
Low bandwidth, low carbon, built to last
A website’s footprint comes from what it makes people download, how long it stays online, and where it is hosted. Research sites are often used across the world on slow connections, and they usually outlive their grants. We build them light, so they are kinder to your audience and to the climate.
How we keep client sites light
Light by design
Static pages, compressed images, and fonts served from the site itself mean visitors download kilobytes, not megabytes. That helps people on slow or expensive connections, in the places your research reaches, as much as it helps the planet.
No third-party baggage
No tracking scripts, ad networks, or embedded widgets unless they earn their place. Each one costs bandwidth, privacy, and speed.
Green hosting we can evidence
We check hosting against the Green Web Foundation’s verified list, rather than relying on a provider’s marketing.
A plan for after the grant
Sites are built so they can be archived as lightweight static copies, keeping your evidence online for a fraction of the cost and energy when funding ends.
Measured, not claimed
We measure page weight and report it, with the limits stated. We do not promise carbon neutrality, because no honest web builder can.
What we measured on this website
Last updated 30 September 2026
Page weight
We loaded each page in a clean browser with nothing stored, and scrolled to the bottom so that every image was included. This is the total data transferred:
| Page | Data transferred |
|---|---|
| Home | about 260 KB |
| Services | about 65 KB |
| Work | about 165 KB |
| A case study (MASTS) | about 145 KB |
| About | about 65 KB |
| Contact | about 95 KB |
The typical web page today is more than 2 MB, according to the HTTP Archive’s Web Almanac, so our heaviest page is roughly a tenth of that. The only JavaScript is a few lines of our own, for the menu, the contact form, and the home page animation. The one third-party script is the contact page’s spam check, which accounts for about 28 KB of that page’s total.
Independent rating
Third parties and cookies
The site makes no requests to third parties, apart from the contact page’s spam check. The website itself sets no cookies, and fonts and images come from the site itself.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which the Green Web Foundation lists as a verified green hosting provider. We checked this on 30 September 2026, and you can check it yourself at the Green Web Foundation.
What we do not claim
We do not say this website is carbon neutral or zero carbon. Online carbon calculators give estimates that differ from one another, so we report what we can measure directly: how much data each page transfers. The rating above is one such estimate, for our home page. You are welcome to test any page with Website Carbon, and we will re-measure whenever the site changes significantly.
