The Forum

The Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Engagement Forum is a self-led space where representatives of Indigenous Peoples and local communities work together to influence global carbon markets. It is supported by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM), and was launched alongside COP28 in 2023.

The Forum needed an online platform of its own: somewhere to set out its vision and strategy and publish its work.

The challenge

The Forum’s members are spread across the world, work in different languages, and do not all have fast or reliable internet. A platform for them had to be easy to reach and easy to read, in the language each person uses.

It also had to belong to the Forum. The Forum is led by its members, so the site had to be something a small team could run and update themselves, without depending on a developer.

What we built

We began with a scoping phase: a kick-off with the Forum, presented in English, French, and Spanish, followed by interviews and surveys to find out what members needed before anything was designed.

The site that came out of it sets out who the Forum is, its strategy and priorities, its working groups, its governing documents, and its news and events.

The Forum’s designer supplied a short brand guide with colours and fonts. We turned it into a working identity: we drew the logo as finished artwork and built the look of the whole site from it.

The whole site is available in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese, with a language switch on every page. The design is kept light so that pages load quickly on slow connections, and visitor statistics are collected without cookies.

The outcome

The Forum now has its own home online, in four languages, that its team can keep up to date. We continue to host and maintain it.
